Pregnancy over 35 risks
Risks of Getting Pregnant after the age 35 years old
Normally, 25-35 is the period of age that is the most suitable for a woman to get pregnant and give birth; however, there are a lot of debate on having a pregnancy beyond the age 35. At this age, women’s body and health is not in good condition enough to have a baby or give birth successfully. There is a high chance of failure or health issues with the baby. While recent advancement in medical care is providing much more opportunities for women at this age with many treatment and therapy methods, it is important that each woman should be aware of the potential risks involving in having pregnancy after the age 35:
Risk #1 – Risk of Infertility
It is only difficult but not impossible for women to get pregnant after the age 35. Usually, the older the women get, the harder they are able to get pregnant. Applying medicine and adopting other therapies and treatment to have a pregnancy after the age 35 are popular methods used by many women. However, if the treatment goes not well or a sudden problem happens to you, the risk as a result could be the loss of your fertility forever, in other words, causing you infertility (though there are still methods to treat this infertility with the help of advanced technology)
Risk #2 – Risks involved in fertility treatment
Take a medical treatment method as an example, In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF method). While this method can be successful, it often results in more than one child to be born, or in other worlds, result in multiple-birth. Consequently, this may cause eclampsia during birth giving or premature birth.
Risk #3 – Chromosomal Abnormality:
This term may sound strange to many of you, but in fact, you are probably hearing of the terms Down’s syndrome or Edward’s Syndrome, right? Yes, those diseases are the consequences of Chromosomal Abnormality. Though the rate of this issue is not very high, the older the women are, the higher the rate is: the rate in over-35 women is 1/400 while the rate in 25-year-old women is 1/1250.
Risk #4 – Pregnancy Complication:
There are many health issues which may happen to a 35+ woman while having a pregnancy including gestational diabetes, hypertension (pre-eclampsia or eclampsia); therefore, women of this age must be extremely cautious than others to keep them healthy.
Risk #5 – C-section:
Caesarean Section (or C-Section) is the name of a surgical procedure in which the women cannot give birth naturally but requires a surgical procedure to take out the baby. This hard-to-give birth problem normally requires a C-Section and this is fairly commonplace among older women, especially those of beyond the age 35.
